Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-13

I’m going to share a quick store about an farther and his 8 month old son.
One evening a father was sitting with his eight month old son over his shoulder in the Kitchen. The father was just holding his son while he and his wife were talking after dinner. He noticed that his son was making some straining noises like he was trying to reach for something. After a while of this the father turned his h ad to see what his eight month old son was trying to do behind him. His son eat trying to reach the cord that opens the window blinds. The father saw that and moved his son to his other shoulder. Almost immediately he heard his son making the same noises again and trying to move towards something. The father turned his head and saw this time the baby was trying to reach for his car keys. So at this point the father just turned the baby around to sit on his lap. Surly the baby would relax in that position. But then the baby tried to reach out for the table cloth!
The father said in his mind “why can’t you sit still and stop reaching for everything” then it hit him. Why don’t adults keep reaching to try to achieve their personal goals? Why do adults stop reaching?
The moral of this story is to keep having worthy goals that you can try to achieve. Have many worthy goals that when you get them you would have grown in the process. In the story we learn from a baby. Even though the father moved the baby around to make it difficult for him to reach for anything, the baby still saw something that was worth trying to attain.
What is it that you are trying to attain in our life right now? Are you even reaching for anything??
The bible says in Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” according to his power that is at work within us. Do we even have the faith to try to achieve a worthy goal?
I want to encourage you for 2018 and beyond to always set goals and continue to reach for them. Just as the baby did in the story, of a circumstance happens to move you father away from your goal, keep reaching… or re-position yourself to attain a new goal. Your desire to keep reaching is directly connected to your faith and what you believe God to do in your life. Don’t settle for less just because of a lack of ambition or fear.
Never give up. Don’t be stagnant. Keep reaching and you will keep growing. Don’t be so comfortable that you are doing nothing to make yourself better. If you know someone who need to keep reaching for something, share this link with them. If you have comments please leave them below.
