The bible is not shy about the topic of money and neither am I. Money is important to our every day lives and it’s important that we work to earn it. Money can pay for a family vacation, send your kids to university and it can keep a roof over your head. Money is important to survival but it’s to be kept in its rightful place.
Don’t Love Money
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
1 Timothy 6:10 NIV
We see the drastic, and sometime criminal, things that people are willing to do just for more money. What I think people are missing is that “the more money you have the more problems you got”. (Notorious BIG). If you and anyone who has made a lot of money in their lives, they will tell you that every time they broke through a threshold to a new income level, they had new issues they didn’t have to deal with before. I’m not saying that having a lot of money is bad. What I want to get down to is how we should use this money and not allow it to run or ruin our lives.
Money for a Mission
““No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Matthew 6:24 NIV
The money you make should be directed toward a fulfilling a mission or calling. Every one of us on earth can find some cause that they can stand behind. By having a mission that you are directing your money to serve you are building a lasting legacy and this will give you a sense of purpose when you wake up every morning. If you are only working to make more money then this is like running after the wind. You will never reach the end of that pursuit. Every time you reach one level of income you will want to get to the next… and the next… and so on without ever using that money to be impactful in society. If you are just living to make money then you are worshiping mammon. Mammon is money without God. Money that is worshiped for its own sake and not to help others. When you have the fight priority and God is your focus then He can direct your heart to what mission you can use direct that money to support.
Put ur money where God is calling your heart. It could be your home country, a cause, or your local church. Use the wealth to support a mission that is bigger than just you. By doing this you will leave a legacy and will impact many more lives than you could have by just keeping all that money in the bank. Pray and ask God to lead you concerning what mission you should contribute to.
