What I’m about to share with you will help if you are struggling with lust, pornography or any type of sexual immorality. If you struggle in this area then please read what I’m going to outline in this post. This post is related to my previous one called 3 Simple Ways To Guard Your Mind  ‎and builds upon it. I suggest you read that as well.

“By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:24-26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The key word that I want to highlight from this passage is the word “consider”. I’ve included the dictionary definition because that would help us for this topic. This is the third step and we’ll talk more about it later. See below for the definition.

con·sid·er (kənˈsidər/) verb

1. think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision.
2. think about and be drawn toward (a course of action).
3. regard (someone or something) as having a specified quality.

To be victorious in this battle over lust, pornography and sexual immorality we need to consider what we are doing and the impact it can have on our lives.

This Moses Strategy is easy to understand and apply. The hardest part will be to remember it when facing temptation. As the bible says in 1 Corinthians 13:10 “God will make a way of escape when you are tempted.” Here are the steps.

Step 1: Refusal

“By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,…”

Moses did not want to be called the son of Pharaoh. How this translates to overcoming sin is that this has to do with your status. As a son if Pharaoh , the Egyptians expected Moses to be a certain way. Likewise in today’s world, society expects certain things to be accepted as normal and ok. Don’t think that just because the people around you accept a certain sin that you can give in to temptation. Everyone know Moses as Pharaoh’s son so Moses had to make a conscious effort to correct people who tried to call his as such. When we are tempted we have to make a conscious choose to refuse to commit that sin that we are being tempted with. We are children of God and we should refuse the things of this world that try to tempt us. Don’t allow the status or position that you are in to make you think you can get away with a sin. Refuse it.

Step 2: Choose

“…choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.”

This scripture acknowledges that there is pleasure in sin but the sin comes with separation from God. Thinking carefully (or considering) on this, Moses considered and decided to be mistreated with the people of God rather than enjoy the temporary pleasures of sin. Part of this step has to do with how we have conditioned our minds. Again, please go back and read my previous post if you haven’t already (Click here). If you have been feeding your mind the word of God all week then it will be easier to choose to follow his ways. If you have been putting garbage f on the worlds ways in your mind then you will be likely to make a choice towards the world. When you break it down it’s that simple. Which leads us to the final step.

Step 3: Consider

“…He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.”

Moses considered both options. Being mistreated with the people of God and enjoying the pleasures of the Egyptians. The thought carefully about both and the consequences of the decisions that he was about to make. One decision would lead him to some temporary pain and hardship now but in a little while it would be a long term blessing for him. The other decision would feel nice now but have lingering negative consequences (which we often don’t think about and the world doesn’t tell you about this)

There are rewards that God has in store for you when you overcome the temptation. As Moses did, we too have to look forward to the reward that we will receive when we overcome the sin. Psalms 84 says “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”  ‭‭(Psalm‬ ‭84:11‬ ‭NIV‬)

This is one of the many promises from God in the scriptures. Our response is to walk with Him and be blameless. To walk with God means to stay close and continually moving in His direction. And to be blameless means to always be found in Jesus. Covered in the blood and not allowing any sin to stay in your heart without confessing and repenting.
We may all fall from time to time but don’t fall because of the same temptation over and over again. This Moses Strategy that I have outlined above will help you walk in line with Gods steps and fulfill His purpose for your life.
