Praying using the Word of God - Daily Devotional

Last week I explained how to use the Our Father ad a prayer template. Today I’m going to show you how to plug in the word of God into that Our Father template so that you can pray powerfully. In order to do this, you have to have the Bible verses stored in your heart. As you pray the Holy Spirit will bring to remembrance the verses for you to say. I’m just going to give you some examples today

Episode Notes & Bible Verses

““This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭13‬ ‭NIV

Our father in heaven

You can search your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to speak through you about how God is our Heavenly Father.

One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. – Ephesians 4:6

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. – Psalm 68:5

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. – James 1:17

And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” – 2 Corinthians 6:18

And as you pray these verses you are acknowledging the intimate relationship you have with God as your Heavenly Father through what these verses mean to you.

Holy is your name

As we move into the next pert of our prayer, we can call on the Holy name of the lord. Here are some Bible verses as an example.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. – Acts 4:12

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.- Psalm 20:7-8

In these verses we see that Gods name is Holy. It’s powerful. There is salvation found in His name. And we can find safety and shelter in his name. We lift up and praise the name of God according to our need of God in that moment.

your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

As we pray that Gods kingdom comes in our life we can pray Bible verses that remind us of his sovereignty. Here are some examples.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. – Job 42:2

The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. Psalm 103:19

“The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths. He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.” – ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭135‬:‭6‬-‭7‬

And we can literally stay in the book of psalms and read so many scriptures of Gods sovereignty. He works all things for the Good. No plan of his can ever be stopped. He rules on his throne in heaven and does whatever he pleases in the heavens and in the earth. So this is how we pray Gods kingdom come and his will be done.

Give us today our daily bread

This is where we pray for what we need to survive. So you can find Bible verses about the situation that you are going through and pray them at this part of the Our Father template.

Here are a few examples.

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. – Psalms‬ ‭37‬:‭4‬-‭5‬

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. – Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭7‬-‭8‬

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. – Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭33

We can pray these verses and mention the specific need that we have.

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

We can pray remembering these verses which give us a promise that God will forgive us of our sins.

“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” ‭‭- 1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬-‭9‬

“And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” – ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬

“Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. – ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭1‬-‭4‬

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

As we pray for strength for God to help us overcome temptations we can pray these verses.

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬‬

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. – Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬

“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. – Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭9‬-‭11

Thanksgiving and praise

End your prayer with praise and thanksgiving because God heard your prayer and will answer.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬-‭15

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7
