God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” – Genesis 1:28 NIV

To rule over something is to have absolute authority and control over it.  God has ultimate authority over the earth but he has delegated some of that authority to us as we live to advance his agenda on the earth. So as we go about our lives each day, we are to exercise that authority in our lives.  

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” “Pardon me, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” – Judges 6:12–13 NIV

God called Gideon as how He saw him. He said he was a mighty warrior.  The same goes for us.  As we have the power of the Holy Spirit in us we have power and are considered mighty warriors in the area that God has given us influence over. 

But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you. – 1 Samuel 17:34–37 NIV

David knew something about Goliath that gave him confidence to fight him.  He called him an uncircumcised philistine.  This tells me that David was seeing that he was not in covenant with God which gave David the upper hand. Knowing that we are in covenant with God reminds us that we have been given authority to dominate any situation that opposes us.

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. – Proverbs 18:21 NIV

You probably have heard this proverb before. I have heard it and also confessed it in my life.  It’s important to confess the word of God and confess what we want to see out of a situation. We give life to what we are confessing out of our mouths. We can frame our life by what we say.  It also works from the negative perspective. If you confess negative things over your life, That is what you will get. 

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. – Matthew 11:12 KJV

Being a believer requires an unwavering confidence in God. It takes courage, unwavering faith, determination, and endurance and as we walk out our daily lives, God and all his power is there to back us up as we walk out our destiny and enforce Gods kingdom come in our daily lives.  

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. – Acts 16:25–26

This is a great demonstration of power and authority that is released when we worship.  It was about midnight but instead of sleeping, Paul and Silas was worshipping God and God caused an earthquake that broke them out of jail.  

This same power and dominion is available to us to break the spiritual bars that may be holding us back.

So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword. – Joshua 6:20–21 KJV

This is an example of Gods power in our lives to reach the promises that God has for us.  It shows the power we have when we are obedient and follow Gods instructions. 

Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”  The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”  When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith – Matthew 8:5-10

This centurion understood authority. A couple of important notes here, we have to be under authority to have authority. So submission and obedience to Gods word is necessary to have authority and exercise dominion. Another The principal here is that God can speak his word over any situation, regardless of the location, and that word spoken under the God given authority of Jesus Christ will happen according to Gods will.
