Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord. – Psalm 128:1-4
The psalmist wrote that a good family is a reward for following God. The values outlined in God’s word include love, service honesty, integrity and prayer. These help relationships and they are especially vital to home life.
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. – Psalm 127:1-2
Families establish homes but it is futile without God. A family without God can never experience the spiritual bond God brings to relationships.
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. – Proverbs 24:3-4
A family is built up, furnished and supplied with the necessities of life, and brought into prosperous circumstances. Through wise and prudent management and the blessing of God upon them their household will prosper, without having to take methods that evil men do.
Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time. – 2 Chronicles 7:15-16
In this chapter Solomon just finished building the temple for the Lord. God spoke to him and said that since there is now a place for His presence can dwell, his ears will listen to the prayers made in that place. Your prayer as you bless your home is that God’s presence will be welcomed in your home that He will always hear your prayers.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. – Exodus 12:12-13
God instructed he Israelites to put the blood of a lamb on their door post and it will be a sign as protection from the plagues that He was going to send upon Egypt. Today we don’t have to use the blood of lambs but we can bless the house and apply the blood to Jesus over our homes to protect you and your family and household from anything.
And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and said, How shall the ark of the Lord come to me? So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite. And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household. – 2 Samuel 6:9-11
As you move into your new home, ensure that you do what you need to do to welcome Gods presence into your house. The Arc of the covenant represented Gods presence. While it was in Obededom’s house, everything in his house and all his household was blessed. And when it says household, it isn’t only referring to his physical house, but everything he had authority over with his name.
When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord. And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple. Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.” – 1 Kings 8:10-13
Ensure there is a place in your house that you can go to in order to meet with God. God will meet you in that holy place in your home and speak with you there.
“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. – Luke 10:5-6
These verses were taken from when Jesus sent out the 72. As you bless your new home, ensure that your house is a place that can be a blessing to others. When other believers come over to your house they should feel the peace of God in your home in both a spiritual and hospitable way.
