Praise and Worship as a Weapon

There is so much power that is released when you worship.  There are many situations in the bible that show this power and for whatever you face, you can worship your way out of it.   If you are going through a tough time, just worship and see God make a way.  If you don’t know what decision to make, worship will allow God to make your path clear for you.  Whatever the problem is, worship is the beginning of the solution. Lets get into it.

Episode Notes & Bible Verses

When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. – Joshua 6:20

There are a lot of things to learn from this story.  Possible lessons can obeying Gods directions or facing your fears but I’m going to talk about the power that is released when you Worship.   God could’ve instructed Joshua and the children of Israel to push the wall, or use weapons to knock the wall down. But he instructed them to worship and play the trumpets.  See these verses as an example of what God can do when you worship God.  He will cause the walls that are in front of your promise to come down.

As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. – 2 Chronicles 20:22

This verse shows the power that is released when you worship.  The worship that was released caused the armies that came against Jehosephat to be confused and attack each other.  When you worship, God will cause your enemies to be confused and destroy each other.

But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten.  Lord Almighty, you who examine the righteous and probe the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have committed my cause. Sing to the Lord! Give praise to the Lord! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked.  – Jeremiah 20:11-13

In these verses, Jeremiah was complaining to God because the words that he spoke Pashhur (one of the temple officials) caused him to be beaten and locked up.  Jeremiah complained to the Lord because he didn’t think that this would be the result of speaking Gods word.   In Jeremiah’s complaint, he came to a realization that it’s better to be on the Lord’s side rather than be on any other side.  Though Pashhur had him beaten and locked up, Jeremiah resolved to a position of praise to God because He is still able to save out of this situation.

We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds. – Psalms 75:1

This is one reason why we should worship God in our troubles.  God wants us to give him Glory and share of his goodness to others.  So when you go through tough times, Its important to worship and watch God move.  When He does move in your favour, remember to tell others that it may encourage them as well and give God glory.

Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.  Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.” – 2 Kings 17:38-39

So I include these verses as a warning.  In 2 Kings up to chapter 17 Israel was exiled to Assyria and this was the consequence for ignoring all of Gods warnings and demanding their own way.  It’s important that we worship God and not idols or we would suffer the similar consequences.  In a way you can look at this as preventative worship so that you don’t have to get into a bad situation that you need to worship God to get yourself out of.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.  – Acts 16:25-26

This is a clear example on how God is able to deliver you from any chains that are holding you captive.  Just to put this in perspective, Paul and Silas were put in prison for preaching about Jesus and carrying on about the tings of God.  As they were in prison, they worshiped and God caused an earthquake to happen that split open the jail. This caused them to be free but not only that. If you continue to read, the Jailer and his household were also saved as a result.

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.  Amen and Amen. – Psalms 41:13

If you read this entire Psalms, you will see how David is feeling.  He was feeling helpless, deserted and in trouble as a result of his enemies.  When we are feeling abandoned we should Worship God because He remains at our side.   The important part here is to see that he ended this psalm with Praise to God.  In David’s heart he believed that God is able to deliver him from all the enemies that he faced… so He praised God for His ability to save.
