At the time that I am writing this my son is three months old. When you have a small child it’s incredible how totally dependant they are on their parents. As your child grows and goes through the stages of infancy there is a lot that can be learned that can be applied to life.
As I was rocking and singing to my little guy to try to get him to sleep, I came across something amazing. That particular day was long for all of us. My wife had been up the previous night with the baby so she was sleeping (well deserved I might add. She’s a champ!) and it was my time to put him to sleep. It was about 2:00am. And He had been up most of the day. He didn’t take his normal naps on this day. As I sat there with him, rocking him. Trying to get him to fall asleep, he just kept on crying…and crying… and fussing. Then I realized something. He was REALLY tired! He was so tired he couldn’t stop crying about it. I was trying my best to get him to sleep, bet he was so tired that he couldn’t stop crying about it and couldn’t settle down enough to fall asleep.
And here comes the point I’m trying to make. Are we so childish and immature that we can’t enter the rest of God that he is trying to get us to? In life we all have goals that we want to achieve, and we strive, fight and strain forward to attain those things. Often times we might give up and not peruse it any longer because we can’t fight any longer. God also has goals and dreams that He would want us to accomplish as well. His goals for you may even be the same as yours. Yet we can’t accomplish those things in our own efforts and strengths. We’re trying to get somewhere using our own plan, but God is trying to get us there too and has a better method than us. Only if we would just rest in Him and receive his plan.
You see, I was trying to get my son to sleep. However, he was too small to understand what I was trying to do and because of his lack of understanding, he was crying about his need for sleep.
Eventually he cried himself out and fell asleep. But we need to sit back and rest in God so he can help us understand what we need to do to get to where we want to be. Be sure to enter His rest today. It might be the easiest way to get to where your fighting to be. Find rest in him.
