Episode Notes & Bible Verses
I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. – 1 Corinthians 1:10
Illegitimate division among believers block Gods work in their lives. A football team is unified, not because every person is playing the same position but because everyone is straining toward the same goal line. Likewise, the church is to be united, not because every Christian is exactly alike but because we all play a different part of the same team with the same goal.
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. – Acts 4:32
Unity among the people of God is critical for revealing of the visible manifestation of his glory. Where there is disunity the Spirit does not work.
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. – Romans 14:19
The goal of the kingdom is not to keep other people in line with our preference, but to pressure what promotes peace.
“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:19-20
In the body of believers, the sincere agreement of two people is more powerful than the superficial agreement of thousands because Christ’s Holy Spirit is with them. The or more believers filled with the Holy Spirit will pray according to God’s will, will have their prayers answered.
“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Colossians 3:13-14
The key to forgiving others is remembering how much God has forgiven you. Realizing Gods infinite love and forgiveness can help you forgive others and help you live in unity with others.
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! – Psalms 133:1
David stated that unity is pleasant and precious. Unfortunately unity does not always abound in the church as it should. People oftentimes disagree and cause division over unimportant issues. Unity is important because (1) it makes the church a positive example to the world and helps draw other to us (2) it helps us cooperate as a body of believers as God meant us to.
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. – Romans 12:4-5
Paul uses the concept of the human body to teach how Christians should live and work together. Just as the parts of the body function under the direction of the of the brain, so Christians are to work together under the command and authority of Jesus Christ.
