Knowing God More - Daily Devotional
I often hear a prayer request asking to be closer to God or to know God more. And this is a good indication of your heart and a good request. What we need to remember is that there is no end to how much we can know about God. So he is just not going to pour all of himself onto us at one time. It will overwhelm us. But we need to peruse him and desire him and as much as we seek him, that’s as much as we will find. Today I’m sharing some encouragement regarding knowing God more.

Episode Notes & Bible Verses
Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. – James 4:8
The first move is on us. When we move closer to God, he always responds and comes closer to us. We can draw closer to God through prayer, worship, reading the Bible and quiet devotional times.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:24-25
If we want to know God more and grow we need to make an effort to attend church and fellowship with other believers. Through regular fellowship, we encourage, and build up each other to continue to peruse the things of God. And as we do we grow and know God more.
For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.” And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. – Hebrews 10:37-39
Having situations that require faith will cause you to grow and know God more. When we go through challenges or situations that require us to go to the next level of faith, we also mature in Christ and learn something new about God causing us to draw closer to him. So don’t shrink back from challenges. It’s what God uses to mature us and get us to know him more.
Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. – Jeremiah 29:12-13
When we are really desiring God with all our heart we will find him. This verse promises that. If you want to Grow spiritually and know God more then search after him with your whole heart. Be diligent if your devotion and intentionally set aside time to seek after him. You will find him.
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. – Psalms 139:23-24
Asking God to search your heart is extremely beneficial to knowing God more and drawing closer to God. The reason for this is we want God to show us if there is anything that we are doing that is blocking our growth or knowing him more. It could be a habit or repetitive behaviour that prevents you from spending devotional time or it could be a sin or that you need to overcome.
Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. – Psalms 24:3-4
To have clean hands and a pure heart is to have a life that is clean inside and out. These verses show is that if we want to draw closer to God and know him more then we need to avoid willful sins.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Bible is Gods Inspired Word. We should read it and apply it to our lives. The Bible is our standard for testing everything that claims to be true and our safeguard against false teaching. It’s our source of knowledge and guidelines and gateway into knowing who God really is. If we want to draw closer to God, reading and studying the Bible is the best way.
