Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals. – 1 Corinthians 15:33

We all need to take an inventory of our friends. Which ones are encouraging us in the right direction? Which ones are influencing us to do wrong things. Cut off or limit the ones that are a negative influence so that you don’t get corrupted as well. Also ensure that you are being a good friend and encouraging others to do good.

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. – Proverbs 13:20

Spend time with wise people and you will learn from them. If you hang around fools their corrupt morals will rub off on you.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

It’s best to have someone walking beside you who cares for you. There’s power in numbers so make sure you don’t cut yourself off from your community.

Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” – Mark‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬-‭5‬‬‬

We all need friends like this. This man had a need that he knew Jesus could fix. But since the crowd was too large, they decided to break the roof and lower the friend down to Jesus. We all need people in our lives who would help us go the extra mile to get our blessing or miracle. At times we may be weak or tired but good friends will be there to help carry you through to the finish line.

A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends. –
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭28‬‬

Be careful who you call a friend. Friends sometimes will smile in your face and whisper lies to others when you are not around. Ask God for discernment and help to choose your friends.

There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. – Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭24

Everyone wants to be your friend when things are going well, especially if you’re wealthy. But true friends are the ones who are close to you even when you are going through tough times. They are closer than brothers. ‬‬

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. – Proverbs 27:17

To me, this is the definitive verse of what being a good friend should be. Iron sharpens iron means that each one of you has built up yourself to a particular stature or quality of Christian maturity and through friendships you can each encourage and build up each other so that everyone is more spiritually mature. So take time out of you day to sharpen yourself and when you get with your other Christian friends, you can each build up each other.
