Episode Notes & Bible Verses

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3:23

As you are looking for employment, the thought that should be in your mind is, “God, Where do you want to position me to accomplish your purposes?”  Wherever you find employment, you will be working for God and it will be benefitting your employer.

For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. – Psalm 75:6-7

God will act when He is ready and sometimes we have difficulty grasping the concept of Gods perfect time. As limited humans we can only try to understand this from Gods perspective, but in the appointed time, God will raise you up into the position that He has prepared for you.

Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense. – Proverbs 12:11

This verse can be summarized but saying this.  If you have the desire and a dream to start a business, create a plan and work at it diligently.  Its only through that work that you put in that you will see the benefits of it in terms of financial compensation.  If you only have dreams of doing something but never do any work to try to bring it about then you will never have it.  This leads nicely into the next verse.

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. – Proverbs 14:23

It’s one thing to talk about your plans but it takes strategic, actionable steps for you to accomplish it.  If you desire to get a job, you have to prepare yourself for the interview. You have to improve your skills in the area so that you can meet the requirements of the job description.  Don’t just say that “You are looking for a job”  There is pre work that you have to do to be ready for that job so that when God puts you in it you will succeed.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19 ESV

We can trust that God will always meet our needs.  Whatever we need on earth he will always supply.  We must remember that there is a difference between our wants and our needs. We may not get everything that we want, but we will get everything that we need.  And in terms of a job, remember that you are not hired nor fired by anyone, but you are positioned by God for His purposes.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

God knows your future and His plans for you are good and full of hope.  As long as God goes ahead of us and we are obedient to his leading we can have boundless hope that He has good for us and no plans to harm us.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps. – Proverbs 16:9

You may thing you are supposed to be working in one careen but God may be trying to shift you into another for a specific reason.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33

To “seek first His righteousness” means to turn to God first for help, to fill your thoughts with His desires, to take his character for your pattern, and to serve and obey him in everything you do.  Let this be in the forefront of your mind as you search for your new job.

Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established. – Proverbs 16:3

To “commit your works to the Lord” means to fully trust His guidance in your situation and following through with your actions.  We must maintain a delicate balance, trusting God as if everything depending on Him while working as if everything depended on us.
